Policies and Services
Library Cards
A library card is free of charge to any East Rutherford resident.
To obtain a card, you must apply in peron and show ID and proof of
residency. A valid NJ driver's license,
lease or rental agreement showing your name and your East Rutherford
address is idea for the residency requirement. If that
is not possible, we also accept two (2) current utility
bills and/or a bank statement. Children under 18 must
be accompanied by a parent/guardian who can present the above information.
Cards are valid for three (3) years and can be used in any of
the BCCLS affliated libraries. New "Keychain" cards are also
available for your convenience.
After the three years, your cards can be renewed at no added cost,
however, there is a charge of $3.00 to replace lost cards.
Courtesy Cards may also be issues for those who live outside the
area but work in East Rutherford. Talk to a staff member for details.

Videos/DVDs
Memorial Library has a growing collection of DVDs. Patrons
with a valid adult library card can borrow up to four DVDs at no charge.
Lending Periods
Children can borrow up to six items at one time, a combination of books,
music CDs, audio/read-along books, etc. Although we may occassionally
override the limit at a parent's request, we've found this to be a large enough
number for children
to be responsbile for at one time.
Most children's, teen's and adult non-fiction books and older fiction books
can be borrowed for 28 days. New fiction in our library and most other BCCLS
libraries are held to a two-week loan. If there is no one
waiting on the Reserve List, the items can be renewed.
East Rutherford also lends audio books, language tapes and music CDs
(up to 4) for 14 days. Late fees are 10 s/day/item, unless otherwise noted.
The library also belongs to the Bergen/Passaic Video Circuit,
which allows us to bring our patrons a larger selection of DVDs.
Each month we receive a new batch
of approximately 120 titles. Because we only have each batch for a
limited time, the Circuit DVDs are restricted to East
Rutherford patrons and must be returned to Memorial
Library. There is a $2.00 overdue fine per DVD per day when returned late.
And please do not return audio/visual material in the
bookdrop - they don't bounce well.
Some of the BCCLS libraries allow children to take out age-appropriate
videos on a juvenile card. Just ask, and we'll be happy to help you
find one nearby.
