Mobile Hot Spot Policy

Policy Terms and Conditions

The East Rutherford Memorial Library circulates mobile WiFi Hotspots.  Hotspot Internet service is provided by T-Mobile with unlimited data at 4G LTE speeds. Up to 15 devices may be connected to the Hotspot at once.

Eligibility: Person reserving a Hotspot must be an East Rutherford resident, 18 years or older, with a valid East Rutherford Memorial Library card in good standing.

Availability: Reservations for Hotspots will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.   Reservations may be made up to 60 days in advance, either online, by phone, or in person at the Library.  Hotspots are meant to be used for educational purposes.  Please be respectful of other patrons when using data.  Streaming movies/music can result in lower data speed for the balance of the month.

Loan Period: Hotspots are checked out for a two-week period (renewable once, if no one is waiting).  Only 1 hotspot at a time per family permitted.  After a two-week period has passed, patrons may check out another hotspot.

Returns: Hotspots must be returned to East Rutherford Memorial Library only.  Hotspots may NOT be returned in the Book Drop.  Returns via the book drop will result in a $5.00 fee.

Cancellation: Reservations may be canceled or rescheduled online, by telephone or in person. Please call the Library if cancelling within 24 hours of reservation date.

Late Fines: There will be a $5.00 per day charge if the hotspot is returned late, up to a maximum of $50.00.  If, after 2 weeks, the hotspot is not returned, the borrower will be charged a $100 replacement fee.

Lost or damaged hotspot: The charge for a lost hotspot is $100. The cost for an unreturned power cord AND/OR the outlet adapter is $10.00.  The cost for an unreturned case is $10.00.  The charge for a damaged hotspot will be determined by the Library Director.

Internet Use
The East Rutherford Memorial Library is not responsible for information accessed using this device or for personal information shared over the Internet.  Hotspot users are encouraged to use safe Internet practices.  Using the hotspot to access any online content determined to be illegal or obscene according to federal, state, or municipal law will result in revocation of hotspot borrowing privileges and potentially criminal prosecution.

Privacy Policy
Your internet usage is not tracked by the Library.  The Library does not have access to or collect specific usage data.  The Library does not provide patron information to the service provider.  The only data about the Hotspot program that the Library collects is the following:
  • Total amount of data transmitted and received by each device during a billing cycle
  • Anonymous circulation data related to checkouts of the Hotspot devices
