Tutoring Policy

Tutoring in the library is a privilege granted by the East Rutherford Memorial Library as part of its service to the community. Tutoring will not be permitted to interfere with the use of the library by other members of the community. The following policies are intended to provide a balance between the use of the library by tutors and their students and the use of others in the community.

  • ● Tables and chairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Furniture may not be moved, and tables cannot be reserved. The library reserves the right to assign areas for tutoring or to relocate tutors to another area of the library.
  • ● Tutors may work with a maximum of 2 students per tutor per session.
  • ● Tutors must provide their own supplies, including paper, pens, pencils, staplers, etc. The use of the photocopy machine is available for use at the same cost incurred by other members of the community.
  • ● Work areas must be kept neat and clean by the end of the tutoring session.
  • ● Tutors are responsible for the behavior of their students while in the library.  Both tutors and students are required to comply with the Code of Conduct Policy. The library reserves the right to ask a tutor to stop the tutoring session if it is disruptive to the functioning of the library.
  • ● Children who are tutored in the library are the responsibility of the tutor while on Library property until released to a parent/adult guardian and/or authorized transportation.
  • ● Library phones are not available for use for incoming or outgoing calls.
  • ● Tutors are not endorsed by the library.
  • ● Tutors are not permitted to solicit business while in the library.
  • ● Tutoring sessions must end 15 minutes before closing time.
